The Stellarton Campus of the Nova Scotia Community College has started the construction of the replica gulf style lighthouse that will be constructed at the end of the wharf later this summer.
As of January 19 2006, the floor of the lighthouse has been completed and the class is working on the wall panels of the building. January 25th 2006 at 8:00 AM, engineers arrived to begin the preliminary studies on the new wharf site. Thank you to the Town of Pictou Public Works for removing the sign and transporting it to the museum! Geotechnical survey being performed at the site, January 25th 2006. January 27 2006, workers perform the water portion of the survey to study the ocean floor to base the development plans of the new wharf. Includes the construction of a 136' wharf into Pictou Harbour, a replica of the Caribou gulf-style lighthouse, 10 interpretive panels designed in a Dory theme, and the completion of the Boathouse which will house a Lobster Stock Enhancement Research Project during the development of the entire new museum project.
Phase II includes the consturcion of the main building which will be made of post and beam construction.
Phase III is the completion of the interior of the building; including all displays and exhibits.
The Northumberland Fisheries Museum has partnered with the Northumberland Fisherman's Association to develop a Lobster Stock Enhancement Research Project facility.
Come and see baby lobsters as they grow later this summer at the new museum site! The longest active Member of the Board, Executive Director & Secretary of the Northumberland Fisheries Museum & Heritage Assocation, Anne MacMaster, turned the first piece of sod for the new museum project.

MacIsaac Construction Ltd. of Antigonish was awarded the construction bid of the new wharf project. Piles officially arrived May 23rd 2006! Bill Derby of White Sands, PEI visited the museum project site on June 7 2006 to check out the dory project for the new museum site. Master Boat Builder, Bill Derby offers advice and expertise to project employee, Geoff Bunckle.
Laying rebar in preparation for the concrete pour. The work-crew completed the first dory for the interpretive panels. Each dory will have a sail-themed panel displayed in French and English, with various facts and information about the fishing industry and the Northumberland Strait. The 13 member work team are implementing new carpentry skills during various construction projects. The work team has prefabricated a 24 X 36 boat house which will be erected on the new wharf this summer to house a Lobster Stock Enhancement Research Project until the main museum building is complete in Phase II. A work team, provided through a Job Creation Partnership with Service Canada are learning how to build dories for the new museum project. Dories will be placed along the wharf to display new, interesting interpretive panels about the Northumberland Strait and the fishing industry.

The hatchery building is complete and is currently waiting for the arrival of equipment to complete the interior. The Lantern top was delivered from the Stellarton Campus of the NSCC to the Pictou waterfront by Partner's Construction.
Ralph Heighton, the Advisory Board Chair of the 144 Airfield Engineering Flight Pictou County was instrumental in securing the donation of the time, equipment and labour from Partner's Construction to the new museum site.
